Thinking of Pierce was easy. She’d tucked her face under his chin and savored the moment. Being carried to bed could be sweet or romantic, but in this instance, it was possessive, and that had to be his intention. Nothing he did escaped her. He was doing his best to make her feel safe, or rather, to remind her that he meant to keep her safe.

His bedroom was a floor above hers and had already taken on his masculine scent. The moment they’d crossed the threshold, she was ensconced in him. She took a deep breath and found herself calmer. He set her down on the quilted blue comforter and stood back.

Heat flushed through her as his eyes took her in. He didn’t have to speak to let her know how it affected him to see her like this. She almost asked if it was date three. Though their first two dates had gone poorly, wasn’t it after three dates that you could sleep with a guy without guilt?

She’d never followed the rule, but her mind was curious and drifted.

“Take off your shirt.”

His voice was deep, even gruffer than usual, and the command snapped her back into focus. She wiggled on the mattress, tugging the fabric from under her bottom to allow her the freedom to pull it over her head. After she’d yanked it, she wondered if she should have prolonged the moment. Teased. Made it sexy. The glow in Pierce’s heavy gaze obviously didn’t care, though, and a rumbling purr vibrated through the room.

She scooted back to the center of the massive bed. He crawled after her, encircling her ankle with his large hand.

“Where do you think you’re going?” He slid her back down to the edge of the bed, drawing a light squeal of surprise from her throat. “Here.”

With a sure movement, he tugged her underwear down and tossed it aside. A rush of panic sped through her. Wasn’t that moment supposed to last longer? But the anxiety melted when she saw the warmth in his eyes. It was a look of longing blended with worship, and it calmed her.

Her legs hung over the side of the bed, and he knelt between them. She covered her mouth with both hands to keep quiet. He hadn’t touched her yet, but the anticipation had her ready to scream and beg. His beard brushed her trembling thighs. The scratchy, prickling sensation turned her lower body to liquid.

Desperate need ran through her. If he didn’t do something soon, she’d die, she was certain of it.

“Please,” she whispered.

He pressed gentle, teasing kisses along the insides of her thighs, one leg at a time. She immediately squirmed, wanting more, but he placed one arm across her stomach and held her down. The heavy weight kept her pinned. Her hips couldn’t lift an inch.

His tongue trailed a lazy path, following where he’d kissed moments earlier, stopping short of where she ached for him, where she knew she was wet, if not absolutely drenched. Her hands raked through her hair as she grew anxious and overwhelmed.
